Q: How can I make CD Ripping faster in Linux?
A: Linux uses CD Paranoia be default. This is a ripper that uses error checking. While making it more resistent to scratches,
it's usually not needed and GREATLY decreases the time it takes to rip a CD. To disable it, (in k3b), go to the "Advanced" tab when copying a CD.
Select CD Paranoia level 0.
For regular ripping, using yum, install "grip".
$ yum install grip
Then, start it up (It's in the "Sound & Video" part of the Menu.). In It's Config tab, go to "Rip".
From the "Ripper" drop-menu, select the "grip (cdparanoia)" entry.
Now, make sure that the "Disable paranoia" and "Disable Extra Paranoia" tabs are checked. My 24x CD ripper manages to get up to 30x.
